Healthy Menus: Nutrition tips for meal-challenged Canadians
(NC)—The new Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating, released in 2007 recommends Canadians eat at least
two servings of fish each week, but Canadians typically only eat fish
and other seafood three to four
times a month - half as frequently
as they should. Meal-challenged consumers can develop healthy
eating habits and comply with Canada's Food Guide by:
1. Developing a quick menu plan at the start of each week. Make some meals from scratch and consider convenient but nutritious alternates for busy nights.
2. Stocking their refrigerator with nutritious foods that can be prepared quickly and easily. Look for microwavable prepared fish dishes such as Inspirations by Clover Leaf in the chilled seafood section of the grocery store.
3. Searching out a variety of flavours and cuisines to keep things interesting – many prepared foods are now available in exciting flavour combinations like salmon and sweet pepper salsa or tuna in Thai curry.
4. Adding pre-cut and washed fresh fruits or vegetables or bagged salad or slaw mix to your shopping list.
