E-commerce can help grow your small business

Reporter Script:

In today’s competitive world, small businesses are looking to become more successful and efficient. Using digital technology, like e-commerce, can help achieve this, especially in an environment where 80 percent of Canadians shop online.

Recent data from PayPal Canada shows that small businesses that sell online grew by 22 percent year-over-year – a sharp contrast to businesses that don’t, who saw less than 1 percent annual growth.

E-commerce helps bridge the gap between small business growth in urban and non-urban areas. Last year, digital small businesses in rural areas grew over 18 percent and suburban businesses grew by an impressive 46 percent.

Clearly, technology can accelerate growth for small businesses across Canada, but only one in five Canadian businesses are selling online. This leaves great untapped potential for small businesses to compete better locally and globally.
