Why grains are an important part of your diet

Many of us are always on the lookout for new lunch ideas for the kids.  A balanced lunch includes a variety of wholesome foods, colours and textures. 

But, according to the 2015 Canadian Community Health Survey, more than 50% of children and teens are not eating the recommended number of servings of grain foods in Canada’s Food Guide.

Sue Mah, Registered Dietitian adds:

“Missing out on grains like enriched white bread and wholegrain bread means missing out on important nutrients. According to research from the University of Saskatchewan, kids who eat a variety of grains have better intakes of dietary fibre, folate, and iron. For your kid’s lunch, try pasta salad or mini pitas filled with colourful veggies and a lean protein.
