A 'module' sink gives you handy workspace

(NC)—The kitchen is often a favoured hub of the home. It's the place where family talks begin and gel – and the welcoming warmth of a kitchen is often a magnet for visiting guests and friends. No wonder homeowners are insistent on just the right features, furniture and fixtures to make the décor utterly beautiful as well. Conventional wisdom tells us that the eventual buyers of our homes will want that too.

So where does one begin if a kitchen facelift is in order?

Interior designers usually start with visions and decisions for the countertops and sink, guiding us with exciting spatial concepts that can quickly become reality. Today, for example, requests for a show-stopping sink – one that is drop-dead beautiful but also multi-functional – is leading homeowners straight to the 'module' design. At the 2013 Interior Design Show (hosted in Toronto earlier this year) it was the lavish Blanco Modex sink that was said to 'hold all the aces in the module deck'.

“The module design gives you a fully integrated worktop over the sink,” says Diana Elliott at Blanco Canada, a leading name in kitchen art technology. “With the exceptional lines of the Modex in its grand cubic shape, your kitchen will make a fashion-forward statement while showcasing post-modern architecture as well.”

Popular features include the spacious single bowl and an elegantly angled drainer that slopes very gently in two directions. “The combination of exclusive materials, harmonious surfaces and straight-lined design, creates an incomparable look,” Elliott explained, “and this is continued with equal strength in the accessories. For example, a large filigree cutting board in an ash wood composite can be moved across the entire sink if needed, or positioned efficiently to suspend the stainless steel colander over the bowl at the same time.”

The Blanco Modex sink is made of ground-breaking 'silgranit', a patented material that combines 80 per cent natural granite stone with a premium acrylic resin formula to deliver unprecedented strength and durability. “Silgranit sinks are non-porous for exceptional hygiene and easy care – and they are scratch-proof, chip proof, stain proof, and highly resistant to the heat of saucepans straight from the stove.”

This year you can get the Modex (and other silgranit designs) in a colour called Cinder, a dark, pearlescent charcoal with a hint of brown. More information is available online at www.blancocanada.com.
