Is Vagina a Bad Word?

(NC)—Myth or Fact: You can lose a tampon inside your vagina. Myth or Fact: Girls are likely to risk attack by sharks or bears while menstruating. Myth or Fact: A woman cannot get pregnant while menstruating.

All of the above myths are perceived to be true by many girls, according to a recent survey.

It's no wonder girls have negative feelings toward their bodies when society is building myths and not talking the facts about vaginal health. Generational myths and other falsehoods about girls' bodies have driven more than half (51%) of girls to cite society as a main source of vaginal health misinformation in a recent study conducted online by Harris Interactive. More than half (61%) also say they would be more comfortable talking about vaginal health issues if they were more knowledgeable.

When girls are empowered to become more educated about their vaginal health and have a shared voice, the myths, misinformation and embarrassment lose power, and the truth, pride and facts gain strength. In fact, 91% of girls say that learning more about their body empowers them to make healthier choices for themselves, and 92% say that it is important to pass along vaginal health and period care knowledge to help educate and empower other girls.

Girls can become part of Generation Know – the first generation of girls with a real understanding of vaginal wellness, and the first generation comfortable asking questions and gaining and spreading knowledge.
