Warm temperatures can be dangerous to grades!

(NC)—While warmer temperatures signal the arrival of spring, for students, the change in seasons might bring a loss of school focus and motivation.

“Even though it's beautiful outside and the school year is winding down, it's very important that students not slack off!” says Dr. Nick Whitehead, CEO and founder of Oxford Learning. “Students who have worked hard all year may see a backwards grade slide if they don't maintain their school motivation.”

According to Dr. Whitehead, students have the opportunity to make improvements before the final report card. End-of-year projects, group work, homework, and final exams can help students to bring up their grades, but students need to remain focused on school in order to do this.

Dr. Whitehead cautions that parents need to make sure that their children are not spending their class time daydreaming about summer.

He recommends that to prevent the mental coasting that can occur during the final stretch of the school year, parents and children set an end-of-year goal and work toward it. “Whether it is by fine-tuning study skills or pulling up a math grade, having a goal to work towards makes staying focused easy. And if students need to focus on improving a grade before the final report card, an end-of-year project can be a great way to regain motivation.”

Dr. Whitehead also suggests enlisting the help of a professional tutor to help students manage current workloads, and improve motivation.
