Lend your skills to help your community
(NC) If you feel like life goes by too quickly, why not slow the pace and give a bit of your time to make a difference in people's lives?
One way to help members of your community is to volunteer for the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP), an outreach program aimed at helping taxpayers, who have modest incomes and a simple tax situation, prepare their income tax and benefit return.
During the 40 years that the program has been running, volunteers have helped thousands of eligible Canadians receive the credits and benefits they need. So no matter what stage in life you're at, you can help too. All you need is a basic understanding of income tax, plus an affiliation with a community association or organization, and a willingness to help people in your area.
As a CVITP volunteer, you will:
• Give back to your community and meet new people;
• Help Canadians maintain uninterrupted access to benefits and entitlements;
• Increase your personal tax knowledge and make filing for yourself easier;
• Have access to free tax software, reference material, and training;
• Choose your own schedule and work when it's convenient for you; and
• Improve your résumé by including volunteer experience.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, more information is available online at www.cra.gc.ca/volunteer or toll-free at 1-800-959-8281.
