Use cold water to 'green' your laundry routine
(NC) Washing machines are a quick and easy way to get clothes clean – indeed, most of us can't even imagine the old days of washboards and laundry basins. But washing machines use a lot of water and energy – and that can take a toll on your wallet and onthe environment. Courtesy of Arm & Hammer laundry specialists, here are four simple tips to save your family money while taking a more environmentally-responsible approach to laundry:
1. Wash in cold water. This will help prolong the life of your clothes by keeping the delicate fibres intact while reducing colour fading and shrinkage. With a detergent like Coldwater Liquid, you don't have to compromise your clean expectations since it is specially formulated for use in low temperatures.
2. Another benefit of washing in cold water: you will save power, reducing the dollar signs on your energy bill.
3. Use a high-efficiency detergent that is specially formulated to work with less water, making it easier on your wallet.
4. The cleaning power of baking soda brightens and freshens laundry in any water temperature. Try adding a scoop to your regular load for an extra boost.
