(NC)—The beginning of the year is a good time to make sure that your chequing account is still right for you. What features do you need? How many transactions do you make per month? Do you prefer banking online, at an automated banking machine, or at a branch?

Look carefully at your account agreement. How many transactions are allowed? Are there extra fees for certain transactions, such as electronic money transfers?

If your account does not meet your needs, find out about alternatives on the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada's website, itpaystoknow.gc.ca. The banking package selector tool will help you find a more suitable one. Remember that students, seniors and other groups are often eligible for fee discounts.
