Ethnicity a risk factor for heart disease and stroke among women

(NC)—According to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, women who are African Canadians, First Nations, Inuit and Métis, and South Asians from India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have a greater chance of developing high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke. Heart disease and stroke is a leading cause of death for women in Canada, and kills seven times more women than breast cancer. Nine in 10 Canadian women have at least one significant risk factor for heart disease or stroke. Many ignore, or are unaware of, the symptoms. Women can assess their risk for heart disease and stroke by taking an online quiz at TheHeartTruth.ca/quiz.
